SteamOS

SteamOS is a Debian-based distro optimized for gaming on PC hardware, developed by Valve. It boots directly into Steam’s Big Picture mode, offering a console-like experience. The OS includes drivers tailored for graphics performance and support for various gamepads. While it primarily runs Linux-native games from Steam, Proton layers can help run some Windows titles. It’s free and open, allowing customization for HTPC or game streaming setups. Though Steam Deck uses a newer Arch-based flavor, classic SteamOS remains a free solution for turning a PC into a living room gaming console.
